Hands Resist Him - Las manos lo resisten

Hoy les traigo un tema del que ya se ha hablado en otros lugares, pero que no podía dejar pasar en MundoSoviet, y es que cuando escribí este artículo, recordé este interesante objeto que ha causado muchas especulaciones.
Es el cuadro llamado “Hands Resist Him” o “Las manos lo resisten” si lo traducimos textualmente al español, se supone que es un cuadro embrujado, pues las figuras que aparecen en él supuestamente salen del cuadro en la noche. Otras personas afirman haber tenido problemas de nervios al estar expuestos a esta imagen. La verdad es que ha sido uno de los objetos que más sensación ha causado en Ebay, además de aplicar una buena técnica de mercadotecnia como es el inventar una historia paranormal en torno a un objeto para hacerlo más preciado, pues ustedes han de decirme: si tienen un cuadro por el que su familia ha empezado a enfermar o por el que misteriosamente alguien cercano a experimentado algunos problemas mentales, que harían, ¿quemar el cuadro maldito o “pasar la bolita” vendiendolo por Internet?
Por lo pronto aquí tenemos las palabras del autor de la obra Bill Stoneham:

Where to begin? Well I've always had a connection to what Carl Jung called the collective unconscious. I think we all do. Artists, especially visual artists, are barometers for the currents which run through this collective. Dreams are a common experience people may have with this. Anyway, my own experience is a sensitivity to place– physical, geographical place. There are memories, echoes of all the life within a place. Maybe it's what's called channeling. When I painted the Hands Resist Him in 1972, I used an old photo of myself at age five in a Chicago apartment. The hands are the 'other lives.' The glass door, that thin veil between waking and dreaming. The girl/doll is the imagined companion, or guide through this realm.
As I recall, both the owner of the Gallery where 'Hands' was displayed and the Los Angeles Times art critic who reviewed my show were dead within a year of the show.
I'm sure it was coincidence, but some of what I paint resonates in other people, opening the inner door, or basement. By the way, I still have no idea what happened to the character actor who bought the painting at the show (editor note: it was John Marley, who died in 1984), or how it ended up abandoned in a building, though I could speculate.

¿Dónde empezar?, Pues siempre he tenido una conexión con lo que Carl Jung llamaba el inconsciente colectivo, yo creo que todos la tenemos. Los artistas, especialmente los visuales, son barómetros de las corrientes a través de las cuales corre esta colectividad.
Los sueños son una experiencia común que la gente puede tener con esto.
De cualquier manera, mi propia experiencia es una sensibilidad a un lugar físico, graográficamente. Hay recuerdos, ecos de toda la vida en un lugar. Tal vez es lo llamado canalización. Cuando pinté “Hands Resist Him” en 1972, usé una antigua foto de mi mismo cuando tenía 5 años, estaba en un apartamento en Chicago. Las manos son las “otras vidas”. La puerta de cristal, la delgada linea entre despertar y soñar. La niña/muñeca es la compañía imaginaria, o la guía a través de este reino.

Como yo recuerdo, tanto el dueño de la Galería donde “Las manos” fue mostrada y el crítico de arte de Los Angeles Times que recibió mi muestra murieron al año de la muestra.

Estoy seguro de que ha sido una coincidencia, pero algo de lo que pinto resuena en otras personas, abriendo una puerta interior, o sótano. Por cierto, aún no sé que pasó al actor que compró la pintura en la exhibición (Jhon Marley, quien murió en 1984), o como terminó abandonada en el edificio, aunque podría especular.

a " picker " had found it abandonned behind an old brewery.

at the time we wondered a litlle why a seemingly perfectly fine painting would be discarded like that.

one morning our 4 &1/2 year old daughter claimed, that the children in the picture were fighting, and coming into the room during the night.

now, i don't believe in ufos or elvis being alive, but my husband was alarmed.

to my amusement he set up a motion triggered camrea for the nights.
after three nights there were pictures.
the last two pictures shown are from that 'stakeout'.

after seeing the boy seemingly exiting the painting under threat, we decided, the painting has to go.

Cuando recibimos esta pintura, pensamos que muy buen arte.
Un “levantador” la habia encontrado abandonada detrás de una vieja taberna.
En aquél tiempo no imaginábamos por que una visiblemente buena pintura pudo haber sido desechado de esa manera.
(ahora lo sabemos)
Una mañana nuestra hija de 4 años dijo que los niños de la pintura estaban peleando, y que entraban en el cuarto durante la noche.
Yo no creo en OVNI’s o en que Elvis esté vivo, pero mi esposo se alarmó.
Para mi sorpresa él puso una cámara con sensor de movimiento durante las noches, después de 3 noches hubo algunas imágenes.
Las últimas dos imágenes que se muestran son del “despegue”
Después de ver al niño aparentemente saliendo de la imagen, decidimos que la obra se tenía que ir.
Por favor, júzguelo por usted mismo.
